Understand what you are visiting
Gobustan's UNESCO-listed landscape preserves prehistoric rock engravings. Read the visitor information before setting out so the visit has context. Choose the areas open to visitors rather than assuming every location shown on a map is accessible, and follow the site's marked routes and instructions.
Plan for walking, not just driving
Getting to a destination by car does not tell you how easy the visit will be on foot. Ask about surfaces, steps and accessible routes if anyone in your group needs support. Wear shoes suitable for outdoor walking, carry water and adjust the visit to the day's heat, wind or rain.
Treat extra stops as separate decisions
If you are considering another attraction, including a mud-volcano visit, check its current visitor arrangements and the exact approach road separately. Do not follow an unverified map shortcut. Ask your rental operator whether the proposed route is allowed, or arrange an appropriate local transfer when necessary.
Leave room to learn and return
Build in a meal break and a comfortable return rather than counting only driving time. Ask whether a guide would help your group understand the rock art. Avoid touching or marking the engravings, and keep children close wherever site staff advise extra care.
